CRUELTY

Cruelty comes in many different forms. You have the animal that is not fed correctly or at all. You have the animal that is fed too much and not exercised. You also have animal that is beaten. Well here is another side of cruelty.

WEE MILLIE

On Thursday 17/01/08 I received a call from a very distraught woman. She said she had found a wee staffie in her garden. She thought she’d been used for fighting as she had marks all over her body and she had wounds that were weeping. I said I’d come and collect her. I called my vet to see if I could get her checked out and they said no problem. As we drove to collect her, my thoughts were of what was I going to collect. When we arrived the woman was waiting for us at the door. She was still upset. She said the wee dog was in a poor state and it will upset me when I see her. I went into the house and the wee dog was lying on the sofa. Quite comfortable. As soon as I saw her my heart sank. The wee love was absolutely covered in tumors. Some had ulcerated and were oozing pus. I gave her a cuddle, put a lead on her and put her in the car. I told the woman that just by looking at her I could see the wee scone was suffering and feel it would be better for her to be PTS. We drove home and the more I thought of her the more I thought that was an act of cruelty. The dog hadn’t been seen by a vet for a very long time. I called in the SSPCA and they agreed that this was a cruelty case. I took her to the vet that afternoon. I called her Millie coz she deserved a name. I sat and cuddled her as she went on her final journey. She’s at peace now. It was reported in the local press but no one has come forward to say who owned Millie. Whatever the outcome of finding her owner. I know wee Millie isn’t suffering anymore.

RIP Millie

Staffie Awareness Day 28th April, 2007
We had a fantastic day at Cardonald Dog & Cat Home for our first Staffie Awareness day. There was also a car boot sale that was very successful. We hare very luckyn that we have a good relationship with all the staff at the SSPCA. Carol that deals with the fund raising up in Inverness is one of the judges at our Fun Day dog Show. There was a lot of advice given out about our breed and a lot of friend made. We were able to help rehome a couple of Staffies in the kennels too.

Sponsored Walk15th April, 2007 . Inverness

This was our 1st sponsored walk and I was really nervous. We arrived at Daviot Wood Visitor centre to greet everyone. Not sure who, if anybody, would turn up. We were very lucky with the weather as it couldn't have been more perfect. Well what a day. Staffies, Jack russe, Weimeraner and lots of smiley faces from mums, dads and kids! The 5km walk was great for young and old alike. All the dogs got on as did the owners! Definately going to be a yearly event now up in Inverness and to top it off we raised a staggering £800!! Well done to all who turned up and to the ones that couldn't make it this year.... see you next year! Thanks again for all your hard work and a special thanks to Mia, Daisy and Lucy for handing out the sweets and water.

Sponsored walk Hamilton, 6th May

Well the day arrived and we left Edinburgh to the overcast day. When we got to Strathclyde Park the weather wasn't too bad. Ian and I started to put up our tent. Well all I can say is OH MY GOD!! the weather changed. We had a gale force wind blowing then the terrential rain, hale stones you name it we had it. I was starting to get really worried as to whether anyone would turn up. Christine Bula and her husband arrived and there were a few people ther from Grayhound Awareness so everybody helped. We eventually got the tent up and the day started. Thankfully during the walk the sun was shining. We had a fantastic turnout to support us. We were able to raise just over £1500 and I have to save I was gobsmacked after I'd counted it. Thank you to everyone that came along to all who sponsored us. It really is appreciated.

Dog Show Archerfield Estate, 2nd June ,2007

We had a wonderful Fun day/Dog show on 2rd June, the weather was kind to us and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves as there was such a good atmosphere. We were very grateful to all the judges and Maggie Gough for organising it. Thanks to the East Lothian Council for providing the marquee free of charge, we could not do it without their help. Money raised was just over £700.

Finding homes for all our Staffies
I would imagine all rescues are as busy as we are up here in Scotland but a couple of months ago I needed a very abused wee dog rehomed out of Scotland and I’m happy to say that because we, in Rescue, all work together I was able to rehomed him down South. I don’t want to give any details other than the wee soul has settled into his new home and is very happy.
