We
received a call from a homeless unit up in Dundee to say they had
a couple that had a wee staffie but could no longer look after him,
could we take him?
When we went to see the dog, one of the wardens was looking after
him and we noticed “Buddha”, as he was known, had a
problem with his hip. When we asked the owners what had happened,
they said he jumped over a wall that had a bigger drop at the other
side. In the past if we have a dog that has done this, the injury
they sustain is normally a scraped chin and sore front legs, not
a hip injury. So we took him to the vet who said he had a broken
hip and they would have to take the neck of femur (ball joint at
hip) away. The surgery was done and all was well. After we had had
Buddha, now named Bandit, for a couple of weeks, we got a call from
the warden to say the couple, who were known heroine addicts, had
been talking in the unit and let slip that they actually jumped
on Bandit to cause his injury.
Well,
after he recovered from his surgery we have decided to give Bandit
a permanent home here. He is a lovely dog with a great personality.
It depends what mood he’s in whether he likes other dogs or
not. The next-door neighbour has a wee staffie cross called Peggy
and Bandit loves her. She bullies him all the time but he still
follows her everywhere.
