A tribute to “Tilly”…
On a very cold and snowy night in December 2011 we went to pick up a severely emaciated (and very sick) little dog, from Northern Ir…eland, on behalf of Scottish Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue. She had no name, and had been abandoned by her previous “owners” had no use for her anymore, having kept her cooped up in a kennel and used her as a breeding-machine all of her life. I cried when I laid eyes on her, she was in such an awful state. Luckily for her, our lovely friends Leif and Amelia offered to take her in in foster that night. She was so desperately ill, we had to request a home visit from the vet, as we weren’t sure she’d make it. The vet came, helped her, and gave Leif and Amelia strict instructions about “re-feeding syndrome” in an emaciated dog. Leif and Amelia named her, “Tilly”.
From that night on, Tilly didn’t look back. With their devoted love, patience, care and attention, Tilly went from strength to strength with Leif and Amelia and she blossomed into the voluptuous staffie in Amelia’s favourite photo, here! She became a wonderful ambassador for our breed, and turned up at fundraising events for Scottish Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue as the guest of honour! Leif and Amelia had already made the commitment to keep her, forever.
Today, more than 5 years on, Leif and Amelia said goodbye to Tilly, who went to sleep in her own home, with them by her side. I’ll never be able to thank them enough for providing her with the BEST home any wee dog could wish for. THANK YOU Leif and Amelia, from the bottom of my heart, for all that you have done, and continue to do. Tilly – you were adored by all who knew you. What a “second half” you had, you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, beautiful girl xxx
The Scottish Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue is an entirely voluntary organisation. We are totally dependant on donations and fundraising efforts. To this end we are always very grateful for any donation you can afford, however small it may seem to you. We also organise fundraisers every year - see our Events page. These events are always lots of fun and we guarantee that at the dog show there is a class for EVERY dog whether pooch, Pedigree or three-legged mutt.
